My Principles for Digital Teaching & Learning

Posted by jturner56 on November 26, 2008

The principles I work to:

1. If of learning value all should be able to benefit
2. Students through their eportfolios can connect, communicate & create as they develop as responsible, independent, learners.
3. Teacher learning requires structure to support & value teachers as learners (see teachIT)
4. Formal school & teacher responsibilities apply
5. Communities of learners – teachers & students – working together
6. Support for learning through Digital Learning Spaces & Online communities
7. Expectation of teacher engagement, with respect for teacher diversity
8. Learning for a digital age includes new information skills, multimedia expression, identity formation, visual literacy, digital citizenship, design literacy & purposeful application
9. Learning objectives, facilitating structure, resource allocation, evaluation criteria considerations
10. Questions to be asked:
• what expectations are we setting ourselves?
• what learning is valued and in what ways?
• where is our leadership by example?

Flat Classroom Conference, Qatar January 24 – 26 2009

Posted by jturner56 on November 6, 2008

Just went through the 50 minute video keynote that Julie Linday and Vicki Davis have produced (see http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=293) to explain the Flat Classroom Conference that will be held in Qatar in late January (see http://flatclassroomconference.wikispaces.com).

Apart from giving many reasons to be involved in Flat Classroom projects as part of 21st Century education, and reasons to be there at the Conference, the keynote details the educational rationale and structures that go with Web 2 thinking and delivery.

In summary, the essential elements of educational growth in these fast changing, technology-linked, complex times are (1) Food for thought (2) Time to Think (3) Encouragement (4) Mentoring & (5) Achievable Goal Setting. All of which come together in Web 2 facilitated teaching and learning opportunities. You should know more so as Jack Elliott used to save, “Let’s go to the video”

Well worth the 50 minutes as an educational learning opportunity.

Hope to see you at the Conference.

John
